This specimen is a not just a GIANT (and heavy) pearl.. it is also a great teaching tool. This 59.15 ct natural wild found abalone pearl measures 1.25" x 1"+ and it is over 1/2" deep! It's a GREAT usable shape with NO "gas bubbles" under the surface.. it HAS BEEN POLISHED... I don't know who polished it, but they did a very even job of it. This pearl was part of a vintage collection from a well respected collector. While it is not the quality one could have dreamed of ... the reason it stayed in such a valuable collection (despite being "worked") is because it is SUCH a colorful and a wonderful/settable shape. (one of the biggest draw backs in the natural wild found abalone pearl market is that people are always drawn to the colors but not everyone wants to buy they most common shape (resembling a shark's tooth). This piece would be well suited for a gorgeous brooch or bezel set into a pendant. I have done my best to show the areas of scaling on the edges. This is a SOLID pearl and it is a miracle of a find, polished or not! ID#KPL1018
