Provenance and history! Both are cultivated in a hybrid mussel (hyriopsis cumingii and hyriopsis schlegelii), the hybrid was actually introduced by Japanese fresh water pearl farmers. The colors and shapes of these two types of pearls are very similar. Japan Kasumi pearls are a VERY small on non invasive production, cultivated in accordance with their natural environment, no fertilizers or growth enhancements are used in their production. It is a slow process, where every step is done by hand.
Authentic Japan Kasumi pearls are the product of time, tradition, and an exceptionally rare environment. Unlike mass-produced freshwater pearls, they are grown exclusively in Lake Kasumi‑ga‑Ura, Japan, where decades of careful cultivation, meticulous selection, and the lake’s unique waters combine to create each pearl’s subtle, natural beauty.
