This 35" long necklace (62.1 grams!) is made completely of natural ocean pearls known as Pen Pearls. (Pinna rugosa or the Atrina maura)
The pearls range in size from 4mm at the ends to a center pearl of12mm. The clasp is a solid 14k yellow gold heavy lobster style.
As are characteristic of Pen Pearls.. there are fissures in some of the pearls. I have shown exampled of these in the close up photos as well. These fissures existed in these pearls BEFORE I drilled them nearly twenty years ago, and the pearls are still very much intacted and as they were then. So while I want to be clear that these have flaws, I also want to make sure that it is understood that with the same conscious care offered to all pearls.. this necklace should stand up very well for a very very very long time.
I made collected the pearls, drilled and them and assembled this necklace in approximately 2006 and it has been in private collection ever since. I was SO happy to see this piece again, it had been so long, it felt like lifetimes ago. I can't even comprehend pulling a collection like this together again. The mix of shapes and the sheer sizes of this long make this a truly regal necklace. All the joy that was felt with the discovery of each one of these pearls is visceral when you see this piece.
It is VERY rare to see a necklace of Pen Pearls. When I first aquired them, I wanted to make what I had never seen.. and decades later I can still safely say, I have NEVER seen another necklace like this one! (go ahead google it)
