vintage pearl necklace from LAKE BIWA, Japan

$630.00

Now out of production for decades, Lake Biwa, Japan was the first and most famous fresh water pearl production. Located in the Shiga Prefecture, Lake Biwa produced mostly pearls with no hard shell bead nucleus. These were widely distributed, mostly to the Arab world. Half a century ago, Pacific Pearls, (our family business) collected many many pearls from Lake Biwa, some loose, some in pairs and many in strands. We are now offering a choice selection of them for sale. The pearls in this necklace are COMPLETELY NATURAL COLOR.. and have AMAZING luster despite their ripe age. The matching on these strands is masterful. The necklace is 17" and the oval shape pearls are 5-5.5mm. The necklace is finished with a rhodium plated silver "orbit" clasp. These are collectors pieces, from the vault of Pacific Pearls. For more information on fresh water pearl farming in Japan, please check out our YouTube channel. ID#KDN2346
